Is an online sick note valid in South Africa?
A sick note issued by an HPCSA-registered practitioner after a genuine consultation — in person or by video — is a valid medical certificate. NuHealth notes carry the practitioner’s details and a verification code.
Can I just buy a sick note?
No. A clinician must consult you and decide that you are unfit for work. NuHealth does not sell certificates without a consultation.
How does my employer check it?
They enter the code printed on the note at nuhealth.co.za/verify and see whether it is genuine and when it was issued — never your diagnosis.
