Medical Aid & Costs

Seeing a Doctor, With or Without Medical Aid

Most South Africans do not have medical aid, and many who do run out of day-to-day benefits by mid-year. On NuHealth the consultation fee is on the doctor’s profile before you book, so there are no surprises either way.

The fee before you book

Every clinician shows the price of an in-person visit and of a video consultation. You pay securely when you book — by card or instant EFT.

A receipt your scheme can use

Your receipt is kept in your NuHealth records. If your scheme reimburses consultations from savings, submit it to them as you would any doctor’s invoice.

Medical aid on your profile

Record your scheme and membership number once, so a clinician can see it when they need it.

Questions

What people ask

Can I see a doctor on NuHealth without medical aid?

Yes. Booking is open to everyone and paid per visit; the fee is shown on each doctor’s profile before you book.

Will my medical aid pay?

That depends on your scheme and plan. You pay the doctor when you book; schemes that reimburse from savings accept the receipt kept in your records.
